XVIII. Moon
Illusion, dreams, emotion, unconscious
“I honor the mystery, trusting my intuition
to lead me through the unknown.”
The Moon shines with a softer light than the sun. The kind of light that makes familiar shapes seem strange. This card encourages you to embrace the unknown and trust your dreams, feelings and instincts.
In this image, a dog and a wolf howling at the full moon. They represent two sides of human nature. The dog stands for what is tamed, loyal and familiar, the part of us that seeks safety and belonging. The wolf represents what is instinctual, untamed and raw, the part that is all about intuition and primal drifts. We are not meant to choose one over the other, but we live with both.
The water that surrounds them glimmers by the moonlight. In tarot, water is a symbol of dreams, feelings, and the subconscious. It reminds us that the world is not only made of logic and thoughts. The Moon urges us to feel the delicate signs that direct us when we are confused about the way. Most of the time, we can only find these signs after the moment is gone.
Moonlight changes the way we see things around us. Lines blur, shadows get larger and what seems familiar by day, turns mysterious at night. This is what the Moon card is all about. It can warn us that what we see is only a particular part of the story or that personal fears and hopes could be interfering with what you can objectively see. It can indicate confusion, illusion, but also creativity, imagination and a different way to look at things. Instead of demanding instant clarity, this card asks us to take a step back and not be in a hurry. Like the moon taking the time to complete its cycle. What feels unclear today may make sense tomorrow.
There can also be beauty in what the Moon offers. We don’t always need answers right away. Some truth is better discovered slowly through feelings and imagination at their own pace. When standing under a moonlight sky, the emptiness of not knowing is not the worst thing. The feeling of it can capture the person with wonder, curiosity and awe.
In the end, the Moon reminds us that a lack of clarity does not mean you are lost. The water reflects enough light to guide your next step. And even in darkness, you are learning how to see with different eyes and uncovering things that couldn't be seen at daylight.

Reflections
- How do my dreams, symbols or synchronicities speak to me? What messages do they hold?
- How can I begin to release the fog of confusion and reconnect with clarity?
- Where do I feel most connected to mystery, magic, or the unseen?
