XVII. Star

Hope, renewal, trust, guidance

“I feel guided by hope and

trust in the healing of the universe.”

After the chaos of the Tower, the Star offers calmness. After the darkness of the storm, it brings back the light in a dark sky. Where the Tower shakes us apart, the Star card reminds us that healing and clarity come after disruption. This is one of the most comforting cards in the tarot.

On this version of the card, a jug of water (referring to the classic RWS image of the Star) is poured out into the sky, but the liquid is not just water. It is filled with stars that scatter into the night above. The image suggests that what we release can become luminous, that our healing and our truths can spread further to guide not only ourselves but others as well.

The Star is about perspective, she gently widens your view. Where you once saw only a ruin, you begin to notice the night sky, full of possibility. Pouring stars into the sky is an act of trust, trust that what leaves from your hands will find its place in the universe's larger pattern.

The stars being poured into the sky also symbolize guidance. Just as travelers once navigated by starlight, The Star in tarot offers direction when you feel lost. Even the smallest light can help you find your path in the dark.

This card invites you to let go of what feels heavy and stagnant, to pour it out so it can be renewed. Healing often happens in this quiet way, in small gestures of release and openness. You don’t need to hold everything tightly. You can trust the flow. In trusting, you rediscover hope.

In that form the Star often gives reassurance. It reminds you that you're heading in the right direction, that you can heal, and that clarity is within reach. Sometimes, it’s just a sign to take a break and let yourself recharge instead of keeping going.

After the collapse of the Tower, the Star is the first deep breath. The dust has gone down and the air feels clear again and in the sky shines the light that wasn’t visible before.

So when the Star shows up, let go of what you don’t need anymore. Trust that what flows from you has value, even if you don’t see where it lands.

Reflections

  • What part of me is in need of healing and how can I offer myself compassion there?

  • What does renewal mean for me at this stage of my journey?

  • How can I be a source of light or inspiration for others? How do I do this without depleting myself?
